The gorgeous Greek island of Corfu shares its nickname ‘the emerald isle’ with Ireland. Enveloped with lush green forests and olive groves, Corfu holidays attract travellers for its fantastic sunny weather and inviting beaches. Add to that pretty coves, sleepy villages, delicous cuisine and pastel-coloured cobbled towns and you have an idyllic short haul holiday destination.
Crowned as the second largest Ionian island, boasting over 210km of coastline, Corfu holidays are a fantastic option for families looking for a blend of lively and laid-back beach resorts. The peak summer months of June and August boast blissful temperatures of 32°C with warm, pleasant evenings, or enjoy Corfu holidays in spring and autumn when the weather is cooler.
This diverse resort appeals to a variety of travellers, whether you crave the crowd-pulling DJs and parties of southern Kavos, or the laid-back vibes of San Stefanos in the north – holidays to Corfu tick all the boxes! Among the most popular places to visit in Corfu are Glyfada Beach, Pontikonisi (Mouse Island), Acharavi, Aghios Gordios and the capital Corfu Town. Travelling here is not usually expensive and if you stay in the Old Corfu region, you'll get a taste of tradition without spending big.
The airport is located 3km south of the island’s centre so, although car hire is available and there are plenty of options for taxi, bus or shuttle bus transfer, the journey time will depend on your resort’s location. Most resorts are easy to get around on foot, but many tourists hire a car so they can explore this large island. There’s also a good bus service and taxis are widely available.
Thanks to its winter rainfall Corfu is greener than many Mediterranean islands and its lush hillsides and gorges are home to abundant wildlife. Saddle up for a day trekking on horseback, head off on two wheels on one of the island’s cycle routes or hike one of the scenic walking trails. For the ultimate view of the island, make your way to the top of the 906m high Mount Pantokrator. Most people drive up to see the stunning view but take care on the bends.
